Maurice Zundel on Man and God
What is difficult is to love anybody who happens to come along. The difficulty is to love those with whom we have nothing in common, those whom we find unpleasant. And it is there that we are tempted to fool ourselves and evade God's call...
Man is not completed. Creation is a story involving two parties and cannot be achieved without us. God will not do, in our place, what he expects us to do ourselves...
God can only reveal himself as freedom through our own freedom. God does not dominate us : He is waiting for us...
If I could sum up my entire faith, it is really this :
I believe in the life of Somebody else in me... I believe in the fraitly of God because, if there is nothing stronger than love, there is nothing more fragile.
Maurice Zundel (1897-1975)
