Today's Wisdom

Those who do not pass from the experience of the cross to the truth of the resurrection condemn themselves to despair! For we cannot encounter God without first crucifying our narrow notions of a god who reflects only our own understanding of omnipotence and power

The Foundation of the Church

On Monday June 29, 2020, the Church celebrated the "Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul" with a most beautiful Mass at St. Peter's Basilica celebrated by the Holy Father with a number of cardinals and many faithful and sung by the Vatican's renowned choir...
It is the foundation of the universal Church headed by the successor of St. Peter in communion with the faithful.
Before the readings the Pope prayed: "O God who on the Solemnity of the apostles  Peter & Paul gave us the noble and holy joy of this day Grant we pray that Your Church may in all things follow the teachings of those through whom she received the beginnings of right religion through our Lord Jesus Christ who reigns and lives with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit one God for ever and ever..."
Text of the Holy Father's homily can be read here.
He later blessed the pallia to be received by metropolitan archbishops from the pontiff's representatives in the world as a sign of full communion with the Holy See in Rome.
The prayers of the faithful included three distinct prayers:
1. for persecuted Christians in the world to keep the faith and hope;
2. for missionaries of the Gospel to be carried to all nations;
3. for the suffering, the poor, and the abandoned to be filled with the joy of the presence of the Lord.
The Mass can be watched here.
