Today's Wisdom

Those who do not pass from the experience of the cross to the truth of the resurrection condemn themselves to despair! For we cannot encounter God without first crucifying our narrow notions of a god who reflects only our own understanding of omnipotence and power

The Kingdom of God and the Cross

For readers who wish to read my post on my cross, see it here... However, suffering is more than only physical. It is everywhere. And it can be caused by different reasons including malnutrition, psychological depression, excessive desire to possess the fortunes of others, and abandonment of spiritual nourishment. In the Gospel, Jesus speaks of talents given to followers in order to invest them for the master who, upon coming back, will reward his servants accordingly.  (Matthew 25:14-30).

I am in admiration of His Eminence Thomas Cardinal Collins for his homily, prayers, and offering of the Sacrificial Body and Blood of Christ the Lamb of God in the TV Mass published on Wednesday September 25, 2019 (here). I am not surprised that he has shown humility in service, knowledge in Biblical scholarship, encouraged help and prayer for the sick, the lonely, and prayed for God's mercy upon the faithful departed to God as well as helping persecuted Christians.  As the Eucharist was given to the faithful present, the following prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary was recited:
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears! Turn, then, O most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.  Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
I also admire the Jesuit priest Fr. Henk van Meijel, S.J. not only for offering the Body and Blood of Christ, but also for asking his audience to support Christian missionaries in the world in the TV Mass published on Thursday September 26, 2019 (here).

Much enlightenment was given in answering the question "Can Africa or countries in Africa be lifted out of poverty?" when Fr. Charles Chindufia, S.J.. head of the Justice and Ecology Office for the Jesuit Conference of Africa, was interviewed by Deacon Pedro Guevara-Mann of the Canadian  Salt+Light in April 2019 (here). It shows how Western economic powers and banks pressure small countries of Africa to yield to their demands in employing African nationals - Commenting on the reading from the Book of Amos here, the concern was also raised by the Jesuit scholar Fr. Henri Boulad in his homily on Sunday September 22 (here in French titled Réinventer Karl Marx ...).

To me, the most eloquent example of the Cross that leads to the Resurrection and the Kingdom of God is the life of Jesus Christ - Readers may wish to watch this documentary published in 2017 on YouTube and already watched by over 2.6 million persons - It comes straight from Jerusalem (here Titled: Flight Of Faith: The Jesus Story (Biblical Documentary) | Timeline).
