Today's Wisdom

Those who do not pass from the experience of the cross to the truth of the resurrection condemn themselves to despair! For we cannot encounter God without first crucifying our narrow notions of a god who reflects only our own understanding of omnipotence and power

Thanksgiving

In Canada, we celebrate Thanksgiving today October 14. Historically early settlers and migrants found the land bountiful and thanked God for it.
This morning I watched the TV Mass here where it was preached by the celebrant Fr. Dan Donovan. Fr. Donovan emphasized the nature of gift and gratefulness. In that sense we thank God the Father for he created us out of love through his Son Jesus Christ and continues to enrich us through his Holy Spirit.
For Christians living in Canada, sharing the gift of Christ means supporting persecuted Christians in the Middle East and elsewhere. For donations contact the Ontario Director of the Knights of Columbus here or here. For many years, he has also provided sponsorship for educating students at the Greek Catholic Patriarchal school near Jerusalem - It helps students there to graduate with good marks and continue their high education in one of the universities in the area, See it here.
In Egypt, the Jesuit scholar, Fr. Henri Boulad has been organizing projects to help the needy, mostly Christians - You may wish to contact him here.
May the Lord help everyone realize the gift of life that He has given us and help us to be thankful for everything.
